Laundry Perfume vs Fabric Softener: What's the Difference?

Laundry perfume adds fragrance; fabric softener conditions fabric. Neither replaces detergent. Love for Laundry is a concentrated liquid laundry perfume used in the fabric softener compartment, with detergent added separately as directed.

The main differences

• Detergent: cleans the washing. Follow the detergent's dosing and placement instructions.
• Laundry perfume: adds a chosen fragrance. For Love for Laundry, use 5–10 ml per wash in the fabric softener compartment, following the bottle's directions.
• Fabric softener: conditions suitable fabrics and may also add fragrance. Dose according to its own label; cap sizes and concentrations vary.

Can laundry perfume replace fabric softener?

If you use softener mainly for its scent, laundry perfume offers another way to fragrance your wash. It does not automatically provide the same softening or anti-static effect. You can use laundry perfume without adding softener.

Can I use both?

Check the directions for both products and your fabric care labels. Where suitable, an unscented softener avoids introducing a second fragrance. Do not exceed the compartment's maximum fill line.

What about towels and sportswear?

Follow the manufacturer's care instructions, particularly for technical fabrics. Some items specify that fabric conditioner should not be used. A product being a fragrance rather than a softener does not override a garment's care restrictions.

Is laundry perfume the same as scent booster beads?

Both are intended to add fragrance, but their formats and instructions can differ. Do not assume that a liquid perfume belongs in the drum because a different scent booster does. Love for Laundry goes in the fabric softener compartment.

How does the fragrance last?

Our formula uses micro-encapsulation, which allows fragrance to be released again through fabric movement and use. The result depends on the fragrance, dose, fabric, washing, drying and storage conditions.
